Doraville Police Now Offer Criminal Histories Service

DORAVILLE, GA -- On Monday, Nov. 29, the Doraville Police Department (3750 Park Avenue, Doraville, 30340) began conducting Georgia Criminal Histories.

Doraville residents can obtain these records Monday through Thursday, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The service will not be offered on Fridays.

Each criminal history costs $6.

6-year-old Boy Kidnapped In Doraville By His Father

DORAVILLE, GA -- Police in Doraville said a 6-year-old boy was kidnapped from his home by his father late Wednesday.

According to investigators, the father, Gilberto Gonzalez-Gonzalez, assaulted a male by pushing his way into a home on Aztec Road and used force to kidnap his son, Bryan Gonzalez-Perez.

Young Bryan is described by police as 4-feet tall, 48 pounds and last seen wearing a blue t-shirt and blue sweatpants. Investigators said Gonzalez-Gonzalez is 5-feet tall, 160 pounds, and was last seen in a blue mechanic's uniform. He was driving a blue 1990s model Cadillac sedan.

Investigators said he was thought to be heading toward the Moreland Drive area of Atlanta.

Retail Stores Hoping for Online Push of Shoppers

DORAVILLE, GA -- The day after Thanksgiving is traditionally the start of the busy holiday shopping season. But many people got a jump on that by hitting the stores Thursday or going online.

Ironically, retailers are now using the popularity of internet shopping to try and get customers back into the stores. Indeed, in many ways this year, Black Friday isn't waiting till Friday.

Major stores opened Thanksgiving Day to give themselves a drum leg up on the bottom line.

"I do my shopping first, get my sales, then you go eat; then you rest up for 5 o'clock," said Lorraine Grant, as she went from aisle to aisle at Kmart in Doraville.

Many shoppers were like her, preferring to go against the grain and avoid the crush at the cash register.

"Jewelry, lots of jewelry deals," mused shopper Josanne Heath. "Not a lot of people are out here, so there are not a lot of crowds to deal with."

Boy Kidnapped From Doraville Found Safe

Doraville, Ga-- UPDATE: The Doraville Police Department has  cancelled the alert saying the boy was found safe. Police did not provide additional  information.

The alert was issued Wednesday night after a father kidnapped his six year old son from a home on Aztec Road.

Police say shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday, Gilberto Gonzalez-Gonzalez forced his way into the residence and kidnapped Bryan Gonzalez-Perez.  Gonzalez was driving a blue 1990's model Cadillac Sedan.

Renew You Boot Camp to Hold Casting Call

DORAVILLE, GA -- "Give us six weeks and we will change your life."

With this motto, "Renew You Boot Camp," an Atlanta-based program designed to transform the lives of those less fortunate, will hold a casting call in which contestants will compete in a beauty boot camp set to start in January of 2011.

Renew You Boot Camp will hold its auditions on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Tru Serenity Salon & Spa (6035 Peachtree Road, Doraville, 30360).

The boot camp is comprised of a team of five professionals in the Atlanta area, including aesthetician Tracey Thomas, stylist Kristy Edmondson, personal trainer Anggie Pope, wardrobe stylist Cheri Lynn and life coach Kevin Brown.

Responding to the growing needs of certain communities, Renew You Boot Camp's objective is to reach out to those less fortunate and to transform their lives, while at the same time showcasing their unique skill sets and talents to the public.

Medicare Questions Answered at Doraville Library

DORAVILLE, GA -- Do you have questions about Medicare Part D?

Rhonda Hunter, external affairs representative with the Center for Medicare Services (CMS), will offer an overview of the insurance plan on Wednesday, Dec. 8 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Doraville Library (3748 Central Avenue, Doraville, 30340).

Participants will have the opportunity for one-on-one counseling and 2011 prescription drug comparisons for the Medicare Part D Annual Enrollment Period.

Medicare representatives will be on hand to assist attendees with the decision tool on the Medicare Web site.
