Tower Beer and Wine of Doraville Donates $10,000 to the Ludacris Foundation During Grand Opening

Atlanta, GA--  Tower Beer, Wine & Spirits gave Atlantans the opportunity to meet Ludacris this past Saturday as they celebrated the grand re-opening of their newly-renovated Doraville location with a slew of festivities.  Tower will continue celebrating through September with special pricing, product promotions and other surprises. 

“We’re elated Ludacris can be part of our kick-off celebration for our Doraville location and that we can help The Ludacris Foundation,” says owner Michael Greenbaum.  “Tower will donate 5% of every Conjure Cognac purchase at the Doraville location over the next 12 months to the foundation, which   provides multiple services for Atlanta youth and the community.  We’re proud to support such a worthy cause.”

Atlanta Bread Among Top 5 Healthiest Fast Food Options

SMYRNA, GA -- In the recently released 2010 Zagat Fast Food Survey, which included 136 national restaurant chains, Atlanta Bread received top five distinctions in two key categories.

The survey's more than 6,500 participants voted Atlanta Bread among the top five large chains (places with less than 5,000 locations) in the Healthy Options and Facilities categories. This is the second straight year that Atlanta Bread placed among the top five chains in these two categories.

DeKalb County COO Keith Barker Fired After Admitting Affair

DECATUR, GA -- DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis says he fired the county's chief operating officer, who admitted having an affair with a county employee.

Ellis said Thursday at a news conference that the COO, Keith Barker, came to him on Wednesday and admitted having the affair. Barker was the county's second-in-command.

The CEO's spokesman, Burke Brennan, said the fact that Barker is married and that the woman is a county employee both figured in the firing, based on Barker not meeting expectations for a high-ranking official.

Brennan says Barker, who did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment, was paid $200,000 a year and will get six months pay as severance.

DeKalb County Reports First Human Case of West Nile Virus

DECATUR, GA -- The DeKalb County Board of Health reports its first human case of West Nile Virus in the county. This is the fifth human case in Georgia. The individual is a 39-year-old male who lives in Decatur and is currently in the hospital with some paralysis.

As of August 31, 26 states have reported 177 cases to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"It is very unfortunate that one of our DeKalb residents has developed West Nile Virus. However, I hope this will remind everyone to continue using precautions to avoid mosquito bites," said S. Elizabeth Ford, M.D., M.B.A., District Health Director of the DeKalb County Board of Health.

The DeKalb County Board of Health advises people to take the following precautions againist being bitten by mosquitoes:

* Reduce outdoor exposure at dawn and dusk, when the mosquitoes that transmit West Nile Virus are most active.

Ludacris to Attend Re-Opening of Tower Beer, Wine & Spirits
