DeKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- Every year, Keep DeKalb Beautiful (KDB) participates in the Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup initiative.

In these difficult economic times, it is even more important that volunteers contribute toward efforts to sustain beautiful, healthy, thriving communities.

Throughout the month of April, local residents helped beautify DeKalb by cleaning up dirty streets, waterways and illegal dumpsites, as well as greening up parks, schoolyards, MARTA bus stops and other public spaces.

On Saturday, Apr. 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., groups of volunteers are asked to host community cleanups and beautification projects around the county.

KDB will provide supplies such as garbage bags, brown reusable bags, plastic gloves, pick-up sticks, safety vests and T-shirts, while supplies last.

Last year, more than 70 groups of volunteers successfully removed 24,000 pounds of litter from 123 miles of DeKalb County roadways.
