And the award for Hispanic Businesswoman of the Year goes to...

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's (GHCC) Annual Awards Gala which was held at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta, hosted by Macy's, UPS, Delta Air Lines... just to name a few. I was even surprised to see Lockhead Martin's table next to ours! Either way, it was such an honor to be in attendance because not only did my family and I have the opportunity to mingle and chat with Atlanta's who's-who and state representatives like State Representative Stacey Abrams (House Minority Leader for the Georgia General Assembly), but we also got to see my mom, Vivian de Jesús, receive an award and be acknowledged as the 2011 Hispanic Businesswoman of the Year.

It was a night to remember! It was also a great opportunity for those in attendance to learn about the impact the Latino/Hispanic community has not only in Georgia but the country as a whole. As the largest minority in the state of Georgia, Hispanics have purchasing power to stimulate our economy in the billions of dollars - $6 billion to be exact. Which is huge! I also found it interesting that Georgia is a leading state for Hispanic businesses to grow.
