DeKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- Every year, Keep DeKalb Beautiful (KDB) participates in the Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup initiative.

In these difficult economic times, it is even more important that volunteers contribute toward efforts to sustain beautiful, healthy, thriving communities.

Throughout the month of April, local residents helped beautify DeKalb by cleaning up dirty streets, waterways and illegal dumpsites, as well as greening up parks, schoolyards, MARTA bus stops and other public spaces.

For the past five years, the popular metro Atlanta-based running specialty store has hosted this event, raised more than $50,000 and donated all the proceeds to TNT— a program offering training for endurance events and focused on finding a cure for blood cancers.

The run known for its scenic route will start at the Brookhaven/Oglethorpe MARTA Station and will wind through neighborhood as well as city streets before turning onto Peachtree Rd., and finishing in front of Big Peach Running Co. Participants have until April 27 at 3 p.m. to register. Registration fees are $20 for an untimed race and $25 for timed through April 19. Afterwards, prices go up to $25 and $30 respectively.
