Late Mayor Jenkins Honored on Arbor Day

DORAVILLE, GA -- On Saturday, Feb. 19, Doraville City Council members, staff and volunteers braved the dreary weather to celebrate a very special Arbor Day.

Each year, the city hosts a tree planting celebration to teach communities about the benefits that plants provide. This year's ceremony not only commemorated Arbor Day, but honored late Doraville Mayor Ray Jenkins as well.

A Chinese Elm was planted in the mayor's memory near the main entrance to the Doraville Library (3748 Central Avenue, 30340). Mayor Jenkins' widow, Lou Jenkins, helped with the planting.

The memorial tree counts toward the Arbor Day Foundation's Tree City U.S.A. initiative.
