Fulton partners with DeKalb to 'Get to Zero'

ATLANTA -- Fulton County comprises 10 percent of Georgia’s population and accounts for 54 percent of the state’s AIDS cases.

In recognition of World AIDS Day on December 1, 2012, starting November 27, both health agencies will sponsor events to encourage residents to take control and get tested in a world-wide effort to reach “ZERO New Infections, ZERO Discrimination and ZERO AIDS Related Deaths.  The County has partnered with DeKalb County to provide similar services in order to have the greatest impact on reducing new HIV infections.

Planned events include:

Wednesday, November 28- 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., free HIV testing will be available at the DeKalb Addiction Clinic, 455 Winn Way, Decatur, GA 30030

Wednesday, November 28 - 6:00 p.m., at Morehouse College Sale Hall, 830 Westview Dr., Atlanta, GA 30314,

More than 2,000 JROTC cadets from 30 metro Atlanta high schools
to participate in historic fundraising effort

On Saturday, November 3rd and Sunday, November 4th, visitors to metro Atlanta Kroger stores are likely to be met by a smiling, uniformed JROTC cadet with an Empty Stocking Fund logo, as more than 2,000 cadets representing 30 metro Atlanta high schools’ JROTC programs will be working outside metro Kroger stores to raise awareness of and contributions for The Empty Stocking Fund, an Atlanta-based, Atlanta-serving non-profit organization that has been providing holiday gifts to Atlanta’s neediest children since 1926.

Free 'Feria Hispana de Salud' for Ga. Hispanics

ATLANTA -- North DeKalb Health Center will hold a free bilingual health fair in conjunction with the Hispanic Health Coalition of Georgia (HHCGA).

The fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 pm. on Saturday, Oct. 6. The goal of the event is to help more than 400 families by providing free health services like blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, women's clinical exams, flu shots and more.

"Providing Latinos in our region with access to health care isn't just an important goal; it is essential to the success of our community," HHCGA executive director Heidy Guzman said in a statement. "By reducing barriers to health care access, the result will be healthier families and, ultimately, a healthier community which will benefit us all."

North DeKalb Health Center is located at 3807 Clairmont Road in Atlanta.

DORAVILLE, Ga. -- Tower Beer, Wine & Spirits in Doraville is finally open for Sunday sales and is ready to celebrate.

The store will hold a Sunday sales festival this Sunday, May 6 from noon until 7:30 p.m. Customers can enjoy lunch from Brown's BBQ and GNO Snowballs, listen to music from Mariachi Amigoz and, of course, stock up on all the beer, wine and liquor they can carry.

Rich "Sully" Sullivan from davefm will attend the festival to bag customers' purchases and carry them to cars. Every tip he receives for his services will be matched by the store; at the end of the day, that money will be donated to the Atlanta Community Food Bank.
