DECATUR, Ga. -- The last day of school is right around the corner for DeKalb County students.

Public schools, as well as Decatur City Schools, will dismiss for the summer on Thursday, May 24.

The last days of school in other metro Atlanta districts are staggered throughout the second half of May. They include:

Chick-fil-A to host mother-son 'Date Knight'

ATLANTA -- All of the Chick-fil-A restaurants in metro Atlanta will host a special mother-son Date Knight on Saturday, Apr. 28.

The Date Knight format will be similar to that of the franchise's massively popular Daddy-Daughter Date Nights. It will give mothers and sons a special chance to enjoy some quality time together.

The event will have a medieval theme, hence the "Knight" part of its title.

"One of Chick-fil-A's goals is to promote community connections and enrich the lives of everyone we come in contact with," Robin Lomax, Chick-fil-A area marketing director, said in a statement. "We understand the importance of mother-son relationships and want to encourage local moms to come to Chick-fil-A, enjoy their sons' company over a meal and have fun."

Last chance to vote on new DeKalb school calendar

DECATUR, Ga. -- The DeKalb County School District is considering a new school calendar that would include early dismissals every Wednesday.

Parents are being encouraged to vote online for one of three proposed calendars for the 2012-2013 school year.

All three calendars call for classes to end one hour earlier on Wednesdays.

One of the options is a modified school calendar that would start on August 1st. It would include four one-week breaks during the school year, with a two-week break at Christmas.

The proposals were developed by a calendar committee, formed at the request of DeKalb Schools Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Atkinson.

The committee included parents, teachers, principals, district office staff, and community partners.

Camp Superstars is the hot spot for kids during the summer. To embark on the total summer camp experience, look no further than your local recreation center!

Camp Superstars is a summer day camp for ages 5-15 and runs June 4 to Aug. 3. The day camp will be held Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. at a charge of $55 per week. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Children who participate in the Camp Superstars summer day camp will experience a variety of activities, including field trips, swim lessons, arts and crafts, fun with nature, sports, health and wellness clinics, team games, and more. Space is limited and early registration is recommended.

State tax credit program raises $50M for scholarships

ATLANTA -- The Georgia Department of Revenue stamped its approval on $50 million in donations under the Georgia Scholarship Tax Credit Program.

The program lets people and businesses get tax credit for donations to scholarships for Georgia children to attend private schools.

Fifty million dollars is the most allowed under the program. In 2012, the statewide cap on donations will increase by the annual increase in the Consumer Price Index until 2018.

Individuals can donate up to $1,000, while married couples have a donation cap of $2,500. Corporations can donate up to 75 percent of their state income tax liability.

The American Federation for Children estimated more than 6,000 students last year got scholarships to attend private schools through the program.
