Weekend roadwork: Once again, avoid I-20 on the west side

(WXIA) -- Drivers are asked to avoid non-essential travel on Interstate 20 on Atlanta's west side this weekend.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews will perform several road projects on I-20 as well as other areas of metro Atlanta. Lane closures and delays are expected.

All work is weather permitting.

This weekend's work by county includes:

Cobb County
* Two northbound lanes of Cobb Parkway will be closed at the Chattahoochee River on Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon for pavement repairs.
* Two southbound lanes of Cobb Parkway will be closed at the Chattahoochee River on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. for pavement repairs.

Cobb/Fulton counties
* Two lanes of I-20 east will be closed for about one mile past Six Flags Parkway from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Saturday for bridge joint and header replacement.
* One lane of I-20 west will be closed between I-285 and Six Flags Parkway on Sunday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. for bridge joint and header replacement.

DeKalb County
* Two Outer Loop and one Inner Loop lanes of I-285 will be closed between Glenwood Road and Covington Highway from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Saturday for sign structure work.

Fulton County
* Two lanes of I-20 west will be closed between McDaniel and Langhorn streets from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for bridge joint repairs.
* Two Outer Loop and two Inner Loop lanes of I-285 will be closed between Washington Road and I-85 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for sign structure work.
* One lane of Ga. 400 south will be closed between I-285 and the Glenridge Connector on Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. both days for cable installation.

Newton County
* The I-20 entrance and exit ramps to Highway 278 will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for bridge repairs.
