DORAVILLE: Wrong-way driver had multiple DUI arrests | News

DORAVILLE, GA -- 11Alive News has learned that man accused of killing a Doraville police detective while allegedly driving drunk and in the wrong direction on Interstate 20 has had several prior arrests, including two drunk driving charges.
The accident happened on Interstate 20 westbound near Wesley Chapel Road in DeKalb County at about 2:30 a.m. The detective, Robert Shane Wilson, 27, was killed in the wreck.
Police said Wilson was headed westbound in an unmarked police SUV, when, they said, a Jeep headed eastward in the westbound lanes struck Wilson's car head-on.
The driver of the Jeep, Gene Jones of Dunwoody, 39, was taken to Grady hospital in stable condition. Police said charges against Jones are pending. Police believe Jones had been drinking prior to the accident.
Jail and court records reveal Jones that has been arrested more than a half dozen times in the past five years in DeKalb and Fulton counties. The list of charges include two prior DUIs, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license and assault.
According to court records, Jones pled guilty to a drunk driving in 2006 and was sentenced to a year's probation, 15 days in jail, 240 hours of community service and even had his license revoked.
