Ways to get around weekend roadwork

ATLANTA -- It's a busy weekend on Metro Atlanta roadways. In addition to all the folks getting away for Spring Break and all the weekend events, lots of construction projects are slowing traffic around the region. Here's how to avoid the mess as much as possible.

Cobb, Fulton Counties

I-75 NB/SB between 10th/14th St. (Exit 250) & I-285 (Exit 259)
8 p.m. Friday - 5 a.m. Monday
3 left lanes

Alternate for I-75 Southbound: Take Exit 259 and follow to US 41 - Cobb Parkway. Turn left on Cobb Parkway and follow across the river where it becomes Northside Pkwy. Follow Northside Pkwy. across Moores Mill Road where it becomes Northside Drive. Follow Northside Drive all the way to 14th or 10th Street.
If traffic gets really bad take I-285 Southbound to I-20 Eastbound back into Downtown Atlanta.

Alternate for I-75 Northbound: Exit onto 10th/14th Street (Exit 250) and take a left on either 10th Street or 14th Street over to Northside Drive and turn right. Follow Northside Drive, which will become Northside Pkwy. and then Cobb Pkwy. You can take Cobb Parkway to I-285 or follow it up to Windy Hill Road or Delk Road and take a left on either one back to I-75 north of I-285. If traffic starts backing up on I-75/85 Northbound , consider taking I-20 Westbound to I-285 Northbound to I-75 north of I-285.

I-75 NB/SB HOV ramp to Northside Drive (Exit 252A)
8 p.m. Friday - 5 a.m. Monday
Ramp will be closed

Use the regular ramp to Northside Drive/Howell Mill Road (Exit 252)

I-75 NB/SB HOV ramp to Cumberland Blvd. (Exit 258)
8 p.m. Friday - 5 a.m. Monday
Ramp will be closed

Use Exit 256 Mt. Paran Road as an alternate.

I-20 WB between Six Flags Pkwy. (Exit 47) & Riverside Pkwy. (Exit 46)
9 p.m. Friday - 5 a.m. Monday
2 right lanes

I-20 Eastbound Alternate North of I-20: Exit onto onto Thornton Road and turn left. Follow Thornton Road to Oak Ridge Road and turn right. Follow Oak Ridge, which becomes Six Flags Drive once you cross Blair Bridge Road. Follow Six Flags Drive to Riverside Pkwy. (Take a left to stay on Six Flags Drive, if you go straight you'll be on Riverside Park and that will put you back on I-20 right at the construction zone.) Stay on Six Flags and cross Six Flags Parkway. At that point Six Flags Drive becomes Lee Industrial Blvd. Follow Lee Industrial Blvd. to Mabelton Pkwy. (Hwy 139). Go right onto Mableton Pkwy., which becomes Martin Luther King Jr. Drive once you cross the river. Continue on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to Fulton Industrial Blvd. Go right onto Fulton Industrial Blvd. and follow back to I-20 Eastbound.

I-20 Eastbound Alternate North of I-20 going to Six Flags Park: Exit onto onto Thornton Road and turn left. Follow Thornton Road to Oak Ridge Road and turn right. Follow Oak Ridge, which becomes Six Flags Drive once you cross Blair Bridge Road. Follow Six Flags Drive to Riverside Parkway. Go straight and you'll be on Riverside Parkway, which you can follow to Six Flags Park.

I-20 Eastbound Alternate South of I-20: Exit onto Thornton Road and turn right. Follow Thornton Road across the river where it becomes Camp Creek Pkwy. Follow Camp Creek Pkwy. to Fulton Industrial Blvd. Go left onto Fulton Industrial Blvd. and follow back to I-20 Eastbound.

I-20 Eastbound Alternate South of I-20 going to Six Flags Park: Exit onto Thornton Road and turn right. Follow Thornton Road to Factory Shoals Road and turn left. Then make an immediate right onto Six Flags Road. Six Flags Road will become Riverside Drive, which will take you to the park entrance.

I-20 Westbound Alternate North of I-20: Exit onto Fulton Industrial Blvd. and go right. Follow Fulton Industrial Blvd. to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and turn left. Follow Martin Luther King Jr. Drive across the Chattahoochee River where it becomes Mableton Pkwy. and go left at Lee Industrial Blvd. Follow Lee Industrial Blvd. across Six Flags Parkway where it becomes Six Flags Drive., which will take you back to I-20 Westbound.

I-20 Westbound Alternate North of I-20 going to Six Flags Park: Exit onto Fulton Industrial Blvd. and go right. Follow Fulton Industrial Blvd. to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and turn left. Follow Martin Luther King Jr. Drive across the Chattahoochee River where it becomes Mableton Pkwy. and go left at Lee Industrial Blvd. Follow Lee Industrial Blvd. to Six Flags Pkwy. Turn left onto Six Flags Pkwy. and follow to the park entrance.

I-20 Westbound Atlternate South of I-20: Exit onto Fulton Industrial Pkwy. and go left. Follow Fulton Industrial Blvd. Southbound to Camp Creek Pkwy. (Hwy. 6) and turn right. Camp Creek Pkwy. crosses the Chattahoochee River and becomes Thornton Road, which you can follow back to I-20 Westbound.

I-20 Westbound Alternate South of I-20 going to Six Flags Park: Exit onto Fulton Industrial Pkwy. and go left. Follow Fulton Industrial Blvd. Southbound to Camp Creek Pkwy.(Hwy. 6) and turn right. Camp Creek Pkwy. crosses the Chattahoochee River and becomes Thornton Road. Follow Thornton Road to Riverside Pkwy. and go right. Follow Riverside Pkwy. to the park entrance.

I-285 Southbound to I-20 Westbound Alternate: Exit onto Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy. and go right. Follow Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy. across the Chattahoochee River where it becomes Veterans Memorial Hwy. Follow Veterans Memorial Hwy. to Discovery Blvd. and go right. Follow Discovery Blvd. across Mableton Pkwy. where it becomes Lee Industrial Blvd. Follow Lee Industrial Blvd. across Six Flags Pkwy. where it becomes Six Flags Drive, which will take you back to I-20 Westbound.

I-285 Southbound to I-20 Westbound Alternate going to Six Flags Park: Exit onto Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy. and go right. Follow Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy. across the Chattahoochee River where it becomes Veterans Memorial Hwy. Follow Veterans Memorial Hwy to Discovery Blvd. and go right. Follow Discovery Blvd. across Mableton Pkwy. where it becomes Lee Industrial Blvd. Follow Lee Industrial Blvd. to Six Flags Pkwy. Turn left onto Six Flags Pkwy. and follow to the park entrance.

I-285 Northbound to I-20 Westbound: Exit onto Cascade Road and go left. Follow Cascade Road to Fulton Industrial Blvd. and go left. Follow Fulton Industrial Blvd. Southbound to Camp Creek Pkwy. (Hwy. 6) and turn right. Camp Creek Pkwy. crosses the Chattahoochee River and becomes Thornton Road, which you can follow back to I-20 Westbound.

I-285 Northbound to I-20 Westbound going to Six Flags Park: Exit onto Cascade Road and go left. Follow Cascade Road to Fulton Industrial Blvd. and go left. Follow Fulton Industrial Blvd. Southbound to Camp Creek Pkwy. (Hwy. 6) and turn right. Camp Creek Pkwy. crosses the Chattahoochee River and becomes Thornton Road. Follow Thornton Road to Riverside Pkwy. and go right. Follow Riverside Pkwy. to the park entrance.

I-85 SB exit ramp to 17th/14th/10th St. (Exit 84)
9 p.m. Friday - 5 a.m. Monday
Ramp will be closed

I-85 Southbound Alternate: Exit onto the Buford-Spring Connector (Exit 86) and follow to Spring Street. Turn right onto Spring Street (Spring Street is one-way Southbound). Follow Spring Street to either 17th, 14th, or 10th Street.

DeKalb, Gwinnett Counties

I-85 NB/SB between I-285 (Exit 95) and Jimmy Carter Blvd. (Exit 99)
9 p.m. Friday - 5 a.m. Monday
2 left lanes

Alternate for I-85 Northbound: Exit onto Chamblee Tucker Road and turn left. Follow Chamblee Tucker Rd. to Buford Hwy. and turn right.  Follow Buford Hwy. to either Jimmy Carter Blvd. or continue north to Beaver Ruin Road. At either Jimmy Carter Blvd. or Beaver Ruin Road, turn right. Both roads will take you to I-85 Northbound.

Alternate for I-85 Northbound from I-285 Eastbound: Exit onto Buford Hwy. (Exit 32) and bear right. That will put you on Buford Hwy. Northbound. Follow Buford Hwy. to either Jimmy Carter Blvd. or continue north to Beaver Ruin Road. At either Jimmy Carter Blvd. or Beaver Ruin Road, turn right. Both roads will take you to I-85 Northbound.
Or you can exit onto Peachtree Industrial Blvd. Northbound (Exit 31b). Follow Peachtree Industrial Blvd. Northbound to Jimmy Carter Blvd. Turn right onto Jimmy Carter Blvd. and follow back to I-85 Northbound.

Alternate for I-85 Northbound from I-285 Northbound: Exit onto Chamblee Tucker Road (Exit 34) and turn right. Follow Chamblee Tucker Road to Pleasantdale Road and turn left. Follow Pleasantdale Road to Tucker Norcross Road and turn right. Follow Tucker Norcross Road, which will turn into S. Norcross Tucker Road. Stay on S. Norcross Tucker Road and cross over Jimmy Carter Blvd., where S. Norcross Tucker Road becomes Singleton Road. You can follow Singleton Road to Indian Trail Road and turn left and follow back to I-85.

Alternate for I-85 Southbound: Exit onto Jimmy Carter Blvd. and turn right. Follow Jimmy Carter Blvd. to Buford Hwy and turn left. Follow Buford Hwy. Southbound to I-285 Eastbound. Follow I-285 Eastbound back to I-85 Southbound.

Alternate for I-85 Southbound to I-285 Westbound: Exit onto Jimmy Carter Blvd. and turn right. Follow Jimmy Carter Blvd. to Buford Hwy. and turn left. Follow Buford Hwy. Southbound to I-285 Westbound.

Alternate for I-85 Southbound to I-285 Southbound: Exit onto Jimmy Carter Blvd. and turn left. Follow Jimmy Carter Blvd. to S. Norcross Tucker Road and turn right. Follow S. Norcross Tucker Road, which will turn into Tucker-Norcross Road to Pleasantdale Road and turn left. Then take your first right and that will put you on Chamblee Tucker Road. Follow Chamblee Tucker Road to I-285 Southbound.

I-85 SB between Beaver Ruin Rd. (Exit 102) & Indian Trail Rd. (Exit 101)
6 p.m. Sunday - 2 a.m. Monday
3 right lanes

Alternate: Exit onto Pleasant Hill Road and turn right. Follow Pleasant Hill Road to Satellite Blvd. and turn left. Follow Satellite Blvd. to Beaver Ruin Road and turn right. Follow Beaver Ruin Road to Indian Trail Road and turn left. From that point you can follow Indian Trail Road back to I-85 Southbound.

Clayton County

I-285 WB between I-75 (Exit 58) and Clark Howell Hwy. (Exit 59)
9 p.m. Friday - 5 a.m. Saturday
1 right lane

There are so many lanes on this part of I-285, an alternate should not be necessary.
