DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- A man was shot twice while smoking outside a DeKalb County house Wednesday morning.

It happened at around 2 a.m. in the 3500 block of Pleasant Brook Village Lane.

DeKalb County Police said the victim stepped outside for a cigarette. The victim's friend, who was still in the house, heard gunshots and ran outside, where he found the injured victim.

Police said the victim was shot once each in the shoulder and head. He was alert and conscious when he was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

The shooter got away in a gray Pontiac. A similar car was later found abandoned on the Interstate 285 exit ramp to Lavista Road; police are investigating to determine if it was the same Pontiac seen leaving the crime scene.

Investigators have not yet named a suspect or given a motive for the shooting.

Ex-DeKalb Commissioner pleads guilty to criminal charges

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- A former DeKalb County Commissioner pleaded guilty to federal criminal charges of mail fraud conspiracy and wire fraud on Wednesday.

Elaine Boyer, who had to pay the county back for thousands of dollars in unauthorized charges on her county-issued credit card, resigned in August.

As 11Alive reported in March, a review of Elaine Boyer's spending found charges for airline tickets, car rentals and other items unrelated to any official county business.

In newly-released court documents, prosecutors allege that Boyer took part in a scheme to defraud DeKalb County and obtain money under false pretenses.(READ THE DOCUMENTS HERE)
