Need a Job?  The Doraville Library Can Help

DORAVILLE, GA -- Start the new year on a positive note by brushing up on your job search skills at the Doraville Library (3748 Central Avenue, Doraville, 30340).

Kristina Armstrong, Career Center manager at the Northeast Plaza location for Goodwill of North Georgia, will share her job-hunting knowledge on Tuesday, Jan. 11 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Armstrong will explain how the Career Center can help Doraville residents in their job searches. Among other things, the Center aids with résumés and applications, holds workshops for improving interview skills and offers abilities evaluations.

Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Dec. 10

DORAVILLE, GA -- On Friday, Dec. 10, Doraville Mayor Ray Jenkins, Mayor Pro-Tem Donna Pittman and the City Council will ring in the holiday season with the annual Christmas party and tree lighting at City Hall (3725 Park Avenue, Doraville, 30340).

The celebration will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; everyone is invited to attend.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a toy to donate to Toys for Tots.

Santa Claus will also be present to hear children's wishes, and hot chocolate and cookies will be provided.

Medicare Questions Answered at Doraville Library

DORAVILLE, GA -- Do you have questions about Medicare Part D?

Rhonda Hunter, external affairs representative with the Center for Medicare Services (CMS), will offer an overview of the insurance plan on Wednesday, Dec. 8 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Doraville Library (3748 Central Avenue, Doraville, 30340).

Participants will have the opportunity for one-on-one counseling and 2011 prescription drug comparisons for the Medicare Part D Annual Enrollment Period.

Medicare representatives will be on hand to assist attendees with the decision tool on the Medicare Web site.

Doraville Library Honors Veterans

DORAVILLE, GA -- Veterans Day is right around the corner, and the Doraville Library (3748 Central Avenue, Doraville, 30340) will be honoring World War II veterans on Saturday, Nov. 6 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Everyone who is interested in World War II stories and events is invited to come and join veterans and citizens alike as they share their memories of the tumultuous time in history.

Dessert will be served during the event. There will also be a special recognition of the veterans in attendance.

Book Sale, Health Fair, 5K This Weekend

DORAVILLE, GA -- There are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy in Doraville this Saturday, Oct. 16.

From 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Friends of Doraville Library (FODL) will hold a book sale at the Doraville Library (3748 Central Avenue, Doraville, 30340). Paperbacks, hardcovers and even some movies appealing to both kids and adults will be available for purchase. The Doraville Business Association will be selling hot dogs, drinks and other refreshments.

All proceeds from the book sale will benefit FODL. For more information, call the Doraville Library at 770-936-3852.

Northwoods United Methodist Church (2635 Fairlane Drive, Doraville, 30340) has planned a community health fair and children's festival from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. They will provide a free health program, including blood pressure and diabetes screenings, health materials from DeKalb Health Department and a chiropractor.
