Silverbacks sign police-officer-turned-goalkeeper

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Silverbacks have signed goalkeeper Joe Nasco for the 2012 soccer season.

The 6-foot-3-inch Nasco has played for the Panama City Pirates and trained with the Chicago Fire, Puerto Rico Islanders and Real Maryland Monarchs.

Silverbacks to host Ultimate Tailgate Party

ATLANTA -- In honor of the first home game of the 2012 season, the Atlanta Silverbacks will host an Ultimate Tailgate Party promotional event before kickoff.

The game against the San Antonio Scorpions will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 7. The gates for parking and the party will open at 3 p.m.

Whichever Silverbacks fan has the best tailgate party -- in other words, the best food, display and overall experience -- will win a special Silverbacks prize pack.

Everybody in attendance will also get a commemorative stadium cup printed with the Silverbacks' 2012 schedule, while supplies last.

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Silverbacks have signed two new midfielders and a forward to the roster for the 2012 season.

Nico Colaluca, Jordan Davis and David Santamaria will join the team at its training camp on Thursday.

"We're very pleased to bring back Nico and Jordan and add David to our roster for the 2012 seasn," director of soccer Rodrigo Rios said. "All three of them are technically gifted players who know the league well and can add great depth to our team."

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Silverbacks will play six preseason games this year, the soccer club announced Friday.

The preseason schedule will feature two games against professional teams and four against college teams.

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Silverbacks have added two more players to the roster for the 2012 season.

Midfielder Tony McManus and defender Tyler Ruthven are the newest team members, the soccer club announced Monday.

McManus, 31, played for the Silverbacks from 2005 to 2008, and the Memphis, Tenn. native is excited to rejoin the team.

Silverbacks sign Hungarian goalkeeper

DORAVILLE, Ga. -- The Atlanta Silverbacks have signed veteran goalkeeper Daniel Illyes, the club announced Wednesday.

The 29-year-old Illyes joins the Silverbacks after playing 10 professional season in his native Hungary, including eight in the first division.

"Daniel is a talented and experienced goalkeeper who will be a tremendous leader for us from the back," Silverbacks goalkeepers coach Jose "Gaucho" Pinho said in a statement. "Through his years in Europe, he understands what it takes to succeed at the professional level, and we're excited to have him."
